Wine is an open source software designed to run Microsoft Windows applications in Linux environment. Wine comes with a library Winelib which helps developers to compile their application to run Unix like systems.

What’s new in Wine 1.7.36

  • Some preliminary 64-bit support for Mac OS X.
  • Support for configuring speakers in Winecfg.
  • Improved support for Mac OS X Trash folder.
  • Support for typographic features in DirectWrite.
  • A total of 44 bug fixes. For more details see changelog.

How to Install Wine

Debian, Ubuntu, Linux Mint, elementary

Installation via Terminal

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install wine1.7

Run

  • Type Wine in dash. Click the launcher icon.
  • For Gnome, go to Applications -> Wine
