This quick guide explains to you the steps to install the Shutter screenshot tool in Ubuntu 20.04 LTS.

Ubuntu 18.10 onwards, Shutter is removed from the official Ubuntu universe repo. This is mostly due to some of the associated dependent packages are removed as they became obsolete. This made Shutter out of official repo which leads to problems to the users. Now if you run sudo apt install shutter, you will see a package not found an error.

However, good guys over the Linux uprising team created a PPA with all required packages for Shutter which you can install all the latest Ubuntu and all supported systems including KDE Neon, Kubuntu, Linux Mint.

Note: Earlier there were issues with Shutter where the image edit button was disabled after installing due to missing packages. This issue wouldn’t come up if you follow the above steps and you do not need to install additional packages to make the shutter edit button work.
