A Quick look at the GNOME Tweak tool and what it has to offer.

With the release of Ubuntu 18.04 with GNOME Desktop, getting away from Unity, we need some customization tools which can be used to configure settings of Ubuntu GNOME desktops. GNOME Tweak tool can help to do that and lot more.

GNOME Tweaks comes with a neat and friendly UI which allows you to find the configure options easily.

Here’s how it looks:

On the left had side of the application, you can find the categories grouped together for easy access. It also comes with a search options (top left) for easy searching.

Features

Here are the configurable options available in GNOME Tweaks 3.28:

  • Appearance
    • Options to change Theme, Cursor, Icons
    • Background Image
    • Lock screen image
  • Desktop
    • List of items which can be seen on desktop as icons
  • Extensions
    • All installed GNOME Shell extensions is available for configure using this section.
  • Fonts
    • Change of fonts for Window title, Interface, Documents, scaling.
  • Keyboard and Mouse
    • Configure Keyboard and mouse with options such as layout configurations, mouse acceleration, pointer location, touch-pad and middle click
  • Startup applications
    • You can add startup applications from the list of apps.
  • Top Bar
    • GNOME’s top status panel can be configured using options such as batter percentage display, clock options, calendar options
  • Windows
    • Behavior of windows can be customized using options like resizing, modal dialog configurations, mouse click actions on title bars.

How to Download and Install

Via Ubuntu Software

Open Ubuntu software and search for “GNOME Tweak” and the click install.

Via terminal

To install GNOME Tweak in Ubuntu 17.10, Ubuntu 18.04 LTS via command line follow below commands:

sudo apt install gnome-tweak-tool

After installation, you can open the application after searching “GNOME Tweak”.
